Calico Ghost Town

Discovery Trails is excited about our Calico Ghost Town History Program. This is a program where visiting students may embark on an "Old West" historical experience, back into the wild and unsettled 1800's, the way it used to be. Calico Ghost Town, an authentic piece of old west history and a State Historic Landmark, offers not just history, geology, and mining, but adventure to go with it.

Students arriving in the morning split into groups to be guided though Calico Ghost Town. Groups walk through Calico Ghost Town to see the restored buildings of this historic "Old West" mining town and even pan for gold the old fashion way.

Others board a real mining train to see the other side of Calico and where the first silver strike was discovered in the Calico Mountains. The Maggie Mine is the next stop where the students will explore a real 1800's silver mine with a guide to lead the way. Geology was never so much fun!

Groups are offered a chance to experience what a school day way like in old Calico. The school marm is always waiting for new students to arrive for class.

Ending up the day will be meeting the rowdy miners and cowboys of the old west. Be careful, you never know who they're gonna make trouble with next!
